Can PARTYNEXTDOOR's "P3" Album Break OVO's Non-Drake Cold Streak?

PARTYNEXTDOOR's new album finally has a release date, but can the project break the year's cold streak of OVO signees?

Fans of PARTYNEXTDOOR woke up to good news on Friday morning: they’re finally getting a new album from the Toronto native.

On August 12, the OVO signee will release his long-awaited, highly-anticipated P3. To celebrate the announcement PND unveiled the second single off the project, “Not Nice.”

While the Canadian triple-threat has been busy writing and recording new music since the release of 2014's PARTYNEXTDOOR 2 album, he has only released a smattering of solo material, instead popping up in credits (Rihanna's "Work") and on reference tracks for Drake for songs like “Company” and “Legend.”

Despite the album delays, however, PND has maintained a strong, dedicated following online and he will need each and every one of his fans to show support in order to fair better than his fellow OVO signees. Though Drake has continued his reign on the charts thanks to Views, 2016 album releases from dvsn, Majid Jordan and Roy Woods have suffered from lackluster sales and stream equivalents, and have been largely unsupported by the 6 God. Running a record label while also being the superstar artist isn't as easy as moguls like Kanye West, Rick Ross and their respective teams have made it look.

Unlike his labelmates, though, PND has some semblance of star power and a strong track record. Will he have the same results as the rest of Owl-laden brethren, or will he break the cycle? In three weeks we'll find out.
