When he isn't making predictions about Chance The Rapper becoming a "slept on legend," challenging the meaning of gender identity or modeling womenswear for a Calvin Klein billboard in the heart of New York City, Young Thug has been hard at work on his forthcoming mixtape, Jeffery.
Tonight, in a post to his Instagram, the Atlanta native announced the project will be released on his upcoming 25th birthday, Tuesday, August 16.
Jeffery, which is a reference to Thugger's government name, Jeffery Lamar Williams, is the artist's third release of 2016, following February's I'm Up and March's Slime Season 3. Producer TM88, who has notched production credits with Future, Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa so far this year, will serve as the project's executive producer.
In April, 300 CEO Lyor Cohen openly criticized his young artist, telling Young Thug in an on camera meeting that he records too much material, leaving "songs like orphans." Given that Thug previously announced plans to release another tape later this year, entitled I Came from Nothing 4, and his long-awaited debut album, Hy!£UN35, still has yet to be completed and assigned a release date, it will be interesting to see whether or not his latest project represents the quality over quantity methodology his label boss has urged him to follow.
