Isaiah Rashad is Next, But Have You Heard This Jay Rock Snippet?

We know TDE has a couple releases in the can, but we’re already hyped for Jay Rock’s follow-up.

At the beginning of August, TDE show-runner Top Dawg teased a September 2 release via his Twitter, a date we later learned belonged to Isaiah Rashad's upcoming Free Lunch.

Thanks to the acclaim of his debut, Cilvia Demo, TDE fans have been clamoring for a follow-up from the Tennessee emcee for two years, an excitement that’s only been fanned by the release of the LP's first single, which finds Rashad showcasing his effortless flow and picturesque lyrics.

While the spotlight is deservedly on Isaiah right now, Top Dawg also hinted at the near-completion of projects from two of label’s other fan-favorites: Ab-Soul and Jay Rock. While Ab-Soul’s project has been in the works for quite some time, Jay Rock is fresh of 2015's release of 90059.

Freddie Gibbs, Saweetie & Earl Sweatshirt: Best of the Week

Freddie Gibbs, Saweetie, and Earl Sweatshirt, among others, had the best new songs on Audiomack this week.

To up the ante, Top Dawg shared the following clip of Rock vibing in the studio to some new music and, from what we’ve heard, Rock has a gem in the chamber:

In the clip we hear Jay Rock displaying the insightful lyrical dexterity he’s built a career off of over an airy, soul-thumping instrumental. It’s not often you find yourself replaying a track snippet over and over again, but the potency of Rock’s tease left me momentarily looking past Isaiah’s upcoming release to an as-of-yet untitled Jay Rock album.

Yes, Isaiah's got next, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take a moment to appreciate and look forward to the work of the veteran TDE built it’s empire around in the first place.
