So far, 2016 has been good to D.R.A.M. The Virginia-bred artist is fresh off the release (October 21) of his proper full-length debut, Big Baby D.R.A.M., which has received a plethora of positive reviews, and its lead single “Broccoli,” co-starring Lil Yachty, currently sits at No. 5 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
In support of the new album, D.R.A.M. recently performed the smash-hit on CONAN sans Yachty, but with the special addition of Travis Barker on drums.
Holy shit you guys, you need to watch this performance. Seeing (and listening) is truly believing.
More than just a lazy recital of the radio-friendly banger, D.R.A.M. begins the track with a dramatic, soulful intro, complete with Barker adding Dale Doback-style cymbal splashes. While the absence of Lil Yachty's verse forced D.R.A.M. to rely more heavily on the record's infectious hook, the end result was an incredible showcase of the Atlantic Records signee's live singing voice, which was just as impressive, if not more impressive than his studio vocal.
D.R.A.M.'s performance oozes with charisma and the precision of a seasoned veteran, qualities that should help to ensure his sustained success over Auto-Tuned singers and studio-made rappers.
He ends the performance by shouting, “spread love” and awkwardly dancing with Conan before describing him as, “real life tall.”
Dammit, it’s hard not to love this guy.
