Questlove’s Reaction to New ATCQ Album Will Skyrocket Your Expectations

The Roots veteran couldn’t have had more complimentary things to say about the new album.

Considering the current political and social climate, when news of the first A Tribe Called Quest album in 18 years recently surfaced, hip-hop heads were understandably excited.

All the hype factors are here on this album. Not only has the group been silent for almost two decades due to internal conflict and record label issues, but these are the last recordings from the legendary Phife Dawg, whom we’re still collectively mourning, and the tracklist is stacked to boot.

With We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service arriving tomorrow (November 11), legendary Roots crew member Questlove took to Instagram to stoke the fires of excitement with an enlivened preview/review of the project.

Among the myriad excited musings Questlove unleashes about the album are the wishful prospects of André 3000 being a full-time member of ATCQ, Jarobi's surprisingly standout verses, and the revival of a true group dynamic.

5 New Songs You Need to Hear: Best of the Week

Drake, Asake, Kay Flock, Ckay, and FKA twigs delivered the best new songs of the week on Audiomack.

While the specifics are certainly exciting, it’s Quest’s explanation of the vibe of the record that really gave me chills. Quest’s love for and knowledge of music makes him one of the most respected tastemakers in the culture right now, and seeing him this giddy over an album has expectations at an all-time high.

Quest finishes out his electrified preview by saying that although the album feels vintage in its musicality, it’s a perfectly timed record for 2016 and shows that ATCQ still has what it takes to craft a classic album, noting that once it drops fans will be, “happy as hell.”

With a musical genius like Questlove singing praises this high, there’s little to no fear of a let down with this record.
