On Wednesday morning (February 8), CyHi The Prynce released "Legend," the first single from his forthcoming debut album No Dope On Sundays.
Over the past seven years, the G.O.O.D. Music signee has released seven mixtapes and helped to pen countless records for his label boss Kanye West, including "New Slaves," "Bound 2," "All Day," "Famous" and "Ultralight Beam," but he has yet to have his moment in the spotlight.
With "Legend," produced by Mark Byrd and Honorable C.N.O.T.E., the Atlanta native believes his time, finally, is now.
"I wanted to bottle my energy, my confidence, and my aggressiveness for this track," CyHi told us. "I’ve been the best rapper for too long and I’m coming for that number 1 spot."
How EKKSTACY Beat Writer’s Block to Make His Best Album
Pop anti-hero EKKSTACY finds his aggressive voice on his new album, 'misery.' He breaks down his journey through writer's block for Audiomack World.
While CyHi's bars take center stage on "Legend,"—"In Atlanta I swear I done fucked like every dancer / Off every word, my mouth red like cherry Fanta / Hail Mary! I'm Makavelli with every stanza / This note is a gift, written sincerely, Santa"—the song's production features Mountain's classic "Long Red" sample, which, as we've pointed out in the past, is one of Kanye's sampling obsessions.
No Dope On Sundays is currently slated for a late spring/early summer release, but as always, release dates in rap music must be taken with a grain of salt.
