Kanye West & Kid Cudi Reportedly Working on a Joint Project in Japan

"They’re going to drop some surprise project on everybody."

Last September, Kid Cudi and Kanye West were not exactly on the best of terms.

Prior to checking himself into rehab for depression and suicidal thoughts, Cudi called out Kanye, tweeting that he "doesn't give a fuck about me." In response, Kanye, who himself had to check into a hospital after experiencing a nervous breakdown while on his fall tour in support of The Life of Pablo, told Cudi to never again mention his name. It was ugly.

Fast-forward 11 months, however, the pair have completely mended fences, and are reportedly working on a "top-secret" joint project in Japan, according to Page Six.

According to a source, the new project is so secret, “they’re going to drop some crazy collaboration out of the blue,” an insider told us. “They’re going to drop some surprise project on everybody. They’re recording it now.”

In June, Def Jam CEO Steve Bartels confirmed that Kanye was indeed recording new music but that he had no knowledge of when that material would materialize into a finished album. Shortly after Bartels comments, West and Cudi were seen with one another in Los Angeles along with Plain Pat, a one-time manager of both artists.

Last week, Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami posted a flick with the pair, thanking them for rolling through his studio.

Not that we don't trust the sources at Page Six, but DJBooth has reached out to representatives for both Kanye and Cudi and we will update this story accordingly should any further news or updates be made available.
