Remember when Desiignerrevealed that there was an 11-label bidding war to secure his artistic services? As it turns out, before the 20-year-old Brooklyn native signed on the dotted line with Kanye West's G.O.O.D Music and Def Jam, French Montana's Coke Boys label was in the running.
On Thursday morning, Montana revealed in an Instagram post that he had the chance to sign Desiigner before Kanye but he knew he wouldn't be able to make a competitive offer.
"I told him get that good music bag," French wrote.
Desiigner exploded onto the scene in 2016, with his now 5x Platinum debut single "Panda" reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, but since then only "Tiimmy Turner" has seen any real success (the song peaked at No. 34).
Simultaneously on the verge of collapse and glory, Desiigner's career is bound to go in one of two very opposite directions over the next 365 days. Suffice to say, however, that he's in a much better position to succeed with Kanye's money and backing than he would be if French had won the initial bid.
