Childish Gambino Reportedly Signs With RCA Records After Seven-Month Bidding War

According to our own label insider, Glover's deal was finalized in December.

Donald Glover will soon be retiring Childish Gambino, but that doesn't mean he won't be making new music.

After a seven-month bidding, which began last April, HDD is reporting that Glover has signed a lucrative record deal with RCA, the label home of SZA, Khalid and GoldLink, among others. According to our own label insider, Glover's deal was finalized in December.

Variety is also reporting that the label deal is between RCA and Glover's creative agency, Wolf + Rothstein, and that he is planning on releasing new music later this year.

Over the past nine years, Glover has released seven free mixtapes and three full-length albums. His latest release, 2016's "Awaken, My Love!", was certified Gold by the RIAA this past June, and spurred the hit single "Redbone," which is currently 3x Platinum.

Glover previously released music through an independent label deal with Glassnote, which was distributed by Universal Music Group. Last year, Daniel Glass, the founder and CEO of Glassnote, cited Spotify's RapCaviar as the driving force behind the success of "Redbone," which, in an ironic twist, might be one of the main reasons why Glover made the decision to finally make the jump up to a major label.

Later this month, Glover will be attending the 60th annual GRAMMY Awards in New York, where his work on "Awaken, My Love!" is up for five awards.
