Migos 'Culture II' First-Week Sales Projection Is Strong

Only four 2017 rap albums had a better opening sales week.

Less than 48 hours after the release of Migos' disappointing new album, Culture II, HDD has delivered their opening week sales projection.

According to the veteran industry trade publication, Culture II is on pace to move between 180-200k copies during its initial week of release, with 30-40k of those units from pure (digital) album sales. Culture II, which stands (very) tall at a whopping 24-tracks, has not yet been made available for physical purchase.

Should HDD's projection range hold, Culture II would boast a better opening week than all but four 2017 rap albums: Kendrick Lamar's DAMN. (610k), Drake's More Life (505k), Eminem's Revival (265k) and Logic's Everybody (251k).

In 2017, Migos' sophomore album, CULTURE, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, moved 131k units during its initial week of release, of which 44k were traditional sales, 10k were track equivalent album units and 77k were streaming equivalent album units.

Impressively, Migos held 27 spots on the U.S. Spotify 100 chart on Friday (Jan. 26)—yes, that includes appearances by CULTURE hits "Bad and Boujee," "Slippery" and "T-Shirt"—which helped the trio rack up an incredible 31.4 million streams in 24 hours. The next closest act was Drake, whose new hit single "God's Plan" is expected to debut at No. 1 this coming week on the Billboard Hot 100, with 14.2 million.

Culture IImight indeed be a "bloated test of patience and dedication that avoids the successes of its predecessor," but that hasn't stopped their fanbase from streaming the album en masse.
