We already knew Cozz could shine over a pensive piano melody, but on “Bout It,” we find the MC upping his artistry by playing around with various vocals inflections. In addition to layering tailing notes into the Meez-produced beat, Cozz injects the track with an attractive spark, ruminating on being surrounded by industry snakes and vowing to never stoop to their level.

Cozz spits with a lilted poise, and with a newfound ease to his delivery, he warms up the single just enough for guest singer Garren’s Auto-Tuned crooning to co-sign the imminent threat of rappers looking to siphon the spotlight by any means.

“Bout It” follows “Badu,” “Ignorant Confidence” and “Questions” as the fourth record to be released off Effected—which will include guest features from both J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar—out Tuesday, February 13 via Dreamville and Interscope Records.
