In March, we asked our readers if rapper 03 Greedo, fresh off the release of his stellar The Wolf of Grape Street project, was the future of rap. One month later, as reported by Jeff Weiss, the Watts native is staring at two decades in a Texas prison.
"Shortly after Drakeo was slapped with a staggering array of trumped up charges, 03 Greedo was sentenced to 20 years in a Texas prison. It stems from a 2016 arrest on a doomed stretch of I-40 between Bushland and Amarillo, where Potter County Sherriff deputies pulled over Greedo and a friend. Claiming to smell weed, they forced upon the trunk and allegedly found four pounds of methamphetamine and two stolen pistols." —Jeff Weiss, "Living Legend: Why 03 Greedo Matters"
Before accepting his reduced sentence, Greedo was facing the possibility of up to 300 years in prison, according to Weiss.

"Sorry I let my fans down," Greedo tweeted last week. "At least we got some great music before I left yall. I wish I coulda stayed with my family but life isn't fair to some of us. Plenty music will be released while I'm gone. Promise me you will love me forever."
When Greedo said "plenty of music will be released while I'm gone," he wasn't lying. Knowing that he was facing the possibility of extended time behind bars, the rapper recorded more than 600 songs.
He will begin serving his sentence this summer.
