Alchemist's Advice for Aspiring Producers is a Serious Joke—Seriously

Are you really gonna be the guy that passes up on a beat Hov liked?

Venerable producer Alchemist jumped on Twitter on Sunday morning in the hopes of delivering a laugh to his followers, but in the end, he also doled out some solid business advice.

Beyond the fact that the illusion of demand and exclusivity can be kingmaking business tactics, most people appreciate and respect persistence—within reason.

Are you really gonna be the guy that passes up on a beat Hov liked? Of course not.

Even if Hov never heard that beat, you're more inclined to give it a chance when a certified legend has already, supposedly, pressed play.

Conversely, are you really gonna be the guy to pass up getting an exclusive beat pack from a producer? Not in this business, where relationships trump everything.

Obviously, don’t email people to the point of overwhelming them and getting yourself blacklisted. But the moral is really that a little re-framing of your product can go a long way. One day you’re firing off emails, and perhaps the next you’ll land a placement that goes Platinum.

Bedroom producers have done it before, why not be next?
