Childish Gambino's Manager Addresses "This Is America" Theft Claims

Over the weekend, several outlets "reported" claims of Childish Gambino effectively stealing the composition, inflections, subject matter, and tone of his poignant single “This Is America” from a track called “American Pharaoh,” by New Jersey-based rapper Jase Harley.

Debates on Twitter, ever ablaze with rational commentary, drove Gambino’s manager Fam Rothstein to reply with a definitive denial. According to Rothstein, the song itself is three years old.

“This song is 3 yrs old, and we have pro tools files to prove it. [sic],” he tweeted.

Rothstein then takes aim at uninvested bloggers latching onto headlines for clicks before doing proper research, and also tagged Pitchfork in a follow-up tweet, confirming that his reply would suffice as a "comment from the label."
