Teyana Taylor's new album, K.T.S.E., arrived a day later than initially scheduled, and according to Taylor, the final version that was released to streaming services and iTunes isn't actually the finished product.
In a new interview on Big Boy's Neighborhood, Taylor shared her surprise from this past Saturday, after learning that the album was missing several tracks that contain samples.
"When the album dropped, I didn't even know that much stuff wasn't cleared," Taylor said. "So when the album dropped and my friends woke me up like, 'Yo, the album is out,' like, I was excited, but I was also like, 'Wait, does that mean they were able to get everything cleared?' It was really just an honest misunderstanding of me thinking maybe some shit happened overnight."
Taylor intimates that her label boss and the album's executive producer, Kanye West, made the "executive decision" to rush the project out in an attempt to make her happy (and likely to meet his stated goal of releasing five albums over five straight weeks). Taylor, however, would have preferred to exercise patience in an attempt to get the album done to her liking.
"I would have waited that [extra] week," she said.
In response to the interview, one of Taylor's fans tweeted, "so basically teyana taylor’s real album isn’t out. [sic]," to which the 27-year-old replied, "pretty much."
According to Taylor, K.T.S.E. will be updated this weekend, presumably now with the previously uncleared samples being given proper clearance, and re-released soon.
I wonder if Nas is thinking, “Yeah, mine isn’t finished either, guys.”
