Collaborative tapes are the fashionable move in 2018. Fresh off the release of Nuthin' 2 Prove, his second album in seven months, Lil Yachty revealed to Billboard that he has two more projects under his belt with fellow young stars Juice WRLD (who is fresh off the release of his own collaborative project with Future) and Trippie Redd.
“I feel like I got another album,” Yachty said. “I might come back again. I'm going to drop a collab tape in December. I got one done with Juice WRLD, and me and Trippie Redd got one. Both tapes are done… [Juice WRLD and I] got a bunch of songs just like [Yacht Club]. We just be in the studio recording. We got hella songs together. This song was actually supposed to go on our tape.”
Yachty then goes on to say that “Forever World” with Trippie Redd was originally Redd’s record, adding: “We were actually supposed to put that song on our project but he was bullshitting.”
As far as release dates go, Lil Yachty promised that his project with Redd would drop this year, so long as Trippie Redd “don't bullshit.”
Though Yachty’s Nuthin' 2 Prove received mixed reviews, it's hard to deny he brings out the best in his collaborators. Perhaps joint tapes with artists he trusts will put him in the right creative to space to produce some of his own best work. Perhaps not.
Only time and Trippie Redd’s bullshitting will tell.
