It would appear that Jamla is, indeed, the squad.
A day after our conversation with Khrysis, we sit with the legendary 9th Wonder at this year's A3C Pro Audio conference to see if we can learn some music and life lessons from the prolific producer/emcee/teacher/label founder. (Spoiler alert, we do.)
In part one above, 9th tells the original story of Jamla Records, revealing that it was producer Amp's fiancee who gave him the idea to start his own label and that the name Jamla is taken from Motown Records imprint Tamla. Plus, while many credit his Jay Z placement as being the moment that sparked his career, 9th says that it was really Masta Ace who gave him that crucial first look.
In part two below, 9th Wonder talks about the lessons he's learned in the music industry, the lessons he continues learn, particularly around leadership, and how he's passing that knowledge down to Jamla artists like Rapsody and the entire squad. Let's just say the man is a Harvard fellow for a reason.
