Aux Cord Banger Battle: Nathan S vs. DJ T-GUT

I love a good rap debate as much as the next man - hell, I write about rap debates for a living - but what often gets lost in the internet's constant hunger for controversy is the simple, pure joy of just sharing music because music's awesome. You know when you're sitting in the car with the homies, trying to hang onto the aux cord for as long as possible by busting out the real gems in your collection? That feeling is what the internet's missing, and that's the feeling I'm trying to capture with these new Aux Cord Battles

Full disclosure, this is (obviously) the first time I'm trying this, so there may be some kinks to work out, but here's the basic idea. I'll go head-to-head with someone, we'll take turns playing a song for five rounds, and whoever has the dopest five song playlist at the end wins. Crucially, we'll do this live, so it's more like an actual battle; someone might bust out a certain song that demands you respond with another certain song. Pre-determined playlists just won't cut it.

For the inaugural edition, I challenged the allmighty DJ T-GUT to a Banger battle: "banger" meaning songs that make you want to commit a crime, preferrable a felony. Our respective playlists, the voting widget and the full podcast of our battle is below. Enjoy - sharing music because music's awesome is awesome.

DJ T GUT's Banger Playlist

  1. MOP ft. Busta Rhymes "Ante Up (Remix)
  2. Jay Z "You Don't Know"
  3. Kendrick Lamar "MAAD City
  4. Waka Flocka "Grove St. Party"
  5. Pharoah Monche "Simon Says

Nathan's Banger Playlist

  1. Mobb Deep "Shook Ones Pt. II
  2. Freddie Gibbs "Rob Me a Nigga
  3. ScHoolboy Q "Fuck LA"
  4. Danny Brown "Smokin & Drinkin
  5. ScHoolboy Q "Oxymoron

Goddamn, that was two heavyweights slugging it out. I thought T-GUT was going to hit me with some newer ratchet/trap music so that's what I had prepared my musical defenses for, he really threw me off with those classic banger. But champions aren't born, they're made, and I feel good about my counterpunches. All respect due to my man, but I think we'll all agree who won (hint, I'm talking about me). Vote accordingly:
