OutKast Dazzle in a Sizzling Sexy Story of Greed

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., -- Grammy Award-winning members of OutKast Andre Benjamin and Antwan A. Patton headline a hip, sexy, and dazzling tale about greed, fame and murder in "Idlewild," coming to DVD on December 5, 2006 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The platinum-selling musical duo lead an all-star cast that includes Terrence Howard ("Hustle & Flow"), Ving Rhames (the "Mission Impossible" series), Faizon Love ("Elf"), Malinda Williams ("Soul Food"), Tony Award winner Ben Vereen ("Why Do Fools Fall In Love") and Oscar(R) nominee and Emmy(R) winner Cicely Tyson ("Fried Green Tomatoes"), Paula Patton ("Deja Vu," "Hitch") as well as musical superstars Patti LaBelle and Macy Gray. Written and directed by Bryan Barber, director of OutKast's MTV Award-winning video "Hey Ya," Idlewild bursts with extravagant production values, sizzling energy, and a blazing hot soundtrack, that blends hip-hop, blues and jazz. The DVD is priced at $29.98 SRP.

This genre-bending hip hop story showcases the musical talent of OutKast in a tale of greed, ambition and murder set in a backwater juke joint. Childhood friends Percival (Andre Benjamin), a shy piano player and Rooster (Antwan A. Patton), a flashy performer, struggle with life and love in the small town of Idlewild, Georgia. The DVD includes two exclusive music videos from OutKast, plus a song that was cut from the film and an additional deleted scene.

"Idlewild's" high-energy mix of lavishly staged musical spectacle, imaginative visual style and engrossing storyline wowed critics across America. Calvin Wilson of the St. Louis Dispatch calls it "One of the most outrageously entertaining films in a long time." "Wildly Entertaining!" raves Shawn Edwards of FOX-TV. Chuck Thomas of WB-TV declares the film is "Amazingly original!" Christy LeMire of the Associated Press extols it as "Extraordinarily imaginative," while Tanya Kersey of Black Talent News gushes, "Fascinating, vibrant and entertaining!" "Engaging and original," says Sid Smith of the Chicago Tribune. "Idlewild" is "Vibrant" according to Entertainment Weekly and "Riveting" in the words of USA Today.

Grammy-winning OutKast members Andre Benjamin (Andre 3000) and Antwan A. Patton (Big Boi) star in this dazzling story in the key of cool. At a sexy, sizzling nightclub, piano player Percival (Benjamin) lives life by the rules, while Rooster (Patton) the club's flashy lead performer struts his stuff on the stage. But everything changes when greed, fame and murder threaten to destroy them and the place that ties them together. Critics are calling "Idlewild" "a fresh, hip and an imaginative extravaganza that will dazzle and thrill audiences from beginning to end." (Shawn Edwards, FOX-TV)
