Five Pitbull Songs Even The Haterz Love

Mondays suck enough without Pitbull, so when Nathan gives me the task of finding five Pitbull songs I could love, as part of the illustrious Haterz Love saga, it makes me want to die. I don't hate Pitbull, I just genuinely think he is balls terrible. Like I hate Wiz Khalifa, but that's music hate, not hate-hate. Even I can acknowledge he is capable of a banger or five. Pitbull? There's no hate there because I just literally don't pay any attention to him. Sweet baby jesus knows I don't need that 'Timber" song in my life, so I've been actively ignoring him.

I'm legit worried I won't be able to find five songs I actually dig. Here I go....

Okay. Not bad, but it's not like Pitbull's carrying the track. 90 percent of the work is done by the beat, produced by some dude named Pharrell. Love the arrangement on this one and the mini-breakdown at the end is really cool. It's a relatively simple beat, but it will definitely get your head nodding. Pharrell makes it work with a few effects here and there, keeping it from becoming stale. Pitbull is much better too. One down four to go.

Back in high school, Pitbull mad up a large chunk of my workout music. I didn't really know what he was saying, but it's hard to deny his energy and again, the beat knocks. I know it's made for the club, but it's also perfect workout music. Plus, a Lil Jon never hurt anyone. I'm still not 100% sure what he's saying on the hook (you know I don't speak Spanish) but it sure is fun to sing along with. Maybe I was too hasty in my Pitbull judgment. I kind of forgot he wasn't always the "Timber" Pitbull we know now.

"Rock Bottom"

Well sheeeeeeeiiittttt, if "Rock Bottom" isn't a banger. I checked this one out for Bun B and only Bun B, but I was really impressed by Pitbull. He actually sounds like a legitimate rapper here. Even in his other stuff I like, it's never his rapping skill that wins me over, but I'm legit impressed. This shit fucking knocks. It has that signature Pitbull energy, but isn't too poppy or dance-y. This one has some bite to it, it's my favorite so far.

"I know You Want Me

Look, this one might be Pitbull's biggest hit, and might be played to death, but I can't help it if it goes. If you go out over the weekend, it's pretty much a lock you will hear this song. You know why? Because, no matter how badly you don't want to, it will make you dance. Fuck an Ebola! This shit right here is dangerously infectious.

I tried to pick something more recent, but no luck. So when that failed, I had go back to the very beginning. It ain't my fault his dopest stuff is also his earliest stuff. In fact, "Culo" is actually his first ever single, and encompasses everything good about Pitbull. All you really need to know is that culo means ass in Spanish, because this song is all about getting booties shaking; crazy danceable beat. For as bubblegummy as he can be now, Pitbull used to be pretty fucking raunchy. Just listen to some his bars here; it's a far cry  from the guy who does world cup theme songs. Also, Lil Jon's ad-libs make this track. Forgot how much fun it can be to hear "yeah" seven hundred times in a three minute period.

Well fuck me sideways, I actually found five Pitbull songs I like. Actually, this is kind of why I do these "Haterz Love" pieces. We have all theses preconceived notions about artists, and it puts us in some soundproof boxes. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you hate an artist and only listen to their shitty stuff, of course you are going to hate them. But if you take the time to dig into the catalog, you never know what you might find. If it can happen with Pitbull, it can happen with anyone...except Tyga.

"Timber" still sucks though....
