DJBooth is proud to announce that
will be rocking on
for this year's
in Atlanta. Born in Brooklyn, Saigon (aka Brian Carenard) credits an early life prison stint with both teaching him how to rap - he was largely known as "The Yardfather" - and the history of himself, his people and the world after intensively studying everything from militant black civil rights movements to European art.
upon his release Saigon quickly became one of the most sought after young artists in the game, landing on a host of prominent mixtapes and eventually being taken in under super-producer Just Blaze's wing and a signing to Atlantic Records. A spot on HBO's hit show
built the hype around Saigon to a fever pitch, but his highly anticipated album
The Greatest Story Never Told
hit continuous delays. Finally, in February 2001, the album dropped to widespread critical acclaim, once again placing him at the top of the New York City hip-hop food chain.
