Setup & First Impressions

Grain Audio is a relatively new professional audio company that produces some cool audio products. The OEHP.01 over-the-ear headphones sport 40mm drivers, lightweight and comfortable construction, and walnut wood earcup enclosures that house the speakers. The OEHP.01 come bundled with a removable cable with an in-line mic and a soft carry case for transport and storage. The removable cable is rather small and thin for actual DJ use, but it can be replaced easily since it has a standard mini 1/8-inch jack so it can be replaced with many other standard headphone cables.

The headband of the OEHP.01 headphones have a design similar to the NOCS NS900 and the AIAIAI TMA headphones that we reviewed some time ago. The construction of the OEHP.01 headphones is somewhat of a mixed bag. The headband is made of rather thin plastic to make them very lightweight and comfortable for long listening periods, but they may not be as durable as a metal headband would have been. The top of the headband has a very thick and plush cushion under a leather-like material. The earcups are big and deep and have the same comfortable cushions and material to wrap all the way around the ears which also provides good isolation and rather low leakage. The enclosure of the earcups are made of walnut wood and they provide a really nice acoustics and a great sound signature. Check out the full video review above for an in-depth look at the Grain Audio OEHP.01 Headphones.

In Conclusion, the Grain Audio OEHP.01 headphones are lightweight and comfortable for long listening or monitoring sessions. The OEHP.01 has very thick padding around the headband and deep earcup cushions that also add the comfort factor. The headphone cable is easily replaceable since it has a standard lead at the end and the walnut wood enclosures add to both the sound and style aesthetics. The sound quality on the OEHP.01 headphones is also great with deep bass and clear highs and mids. The sound is more round for a DJ instead of being flat for production. On the downside, the OEHP.01 are made from mostly thin plastic and the earcups cannot fold or swivel for one-ear monitoring or easy transport/storage. Other than these two issues, the OEHP.01 is a great all around headphone for everyday use that could suit the bill for the DJ booth and for minor production needs.

Pros

  • Lightweight & Comfortable for Long Sessions
  • Plush Headband & Deep Over-Ear Earcups
  • Removable & Easily Replacable Cable
  • Walnut Wood Enclosures Provide Great Sound Signature & Styling
  • Good Sound; Deep Bass; Clear Highs-Mids

Cons

  • Mostly Thin Plastic Construction
  • Earcups Cannot Fold or Swivel
