M-Audio has just released its’ intuitive new series of keyboards called the CODE. The CODE Series is a USB Midi Controller, which is available in 25, 49 and 61 keys. What makes the product so unique is that its’ the first keyboard of its’ kind to feature a built-in X/Y pad. The X/Y pad allows user control of effects and virtual instruments through the touch pad.

Introducing the All-New M-Audio Code Series Keyboards

There are multiple ways to use the X/Y pad to manipulate the sound to your liking. What seems to be most useful is having the pad integrate within your DAW to create unique articulations of your instruments. In addition to the X/Y pad, the CODE Series has an innovative approach to its’ assignable pitch & mod wheels, knobs, faders and buttons. All allow the user to use Mackie Control and HUI modes to control the DAW, virtual instruments and effects. This feature makes it possible to control practically everything related to the workflow of your productions including mixing track levels, arming and recording tracks and manipulating effect levels.

M-Audio built a custom keybed for the CODE that features aftertouch for maximum expression. The keys can be split into four assignable zones that allow you to control multiple instruments at once. This is a great feature to create custom sounds and the zone assignments can be saved to the keyboard to be used later. The CODE also features 16 pads which are velocity-sensitive and RGB back lit. The pads can be used to control drum kits and trigger patterns and samples within your DAW. The fact that there are 16 pads definitely separates the CODE from many of its’ competition as most USB controllers feature only 8 pads. The pads are also completely assignable, allowing the user to change color LED’s, Note and CC values. The CODE Series includes the LOOM and Hybrid 3 Virtual Instruments and Ableton Live Lite with the purchase of the keyboard.

M-Audio has created a ground breaking product with the CODE Series. The addition of the X/Y pad, 16 velocity sensitive pads and its’ ability to control your DAW and VST’s through the knobs and faders, make it one of the most unique USB controllers in the market place.
