Hercules has their take on the new DJ/performer genre- if I may call it that- with their new controller, the P32 DJ(Interesting name).

It is NAMM time and another interesting product is being showcased towards the mobile DJ market.

The new controller from Hercules is a little different than anything that is out there. Yes it can be thought of as two Traktor F1s attached to a simple mixer interface, but it is a little more than just that.

As nicely said by the US marketing manager at Hercules:“We see an entire new generation of DJ/producers who are less interested in traditional turntablism, but still looking for the ability to slice, mix and remix tracks while integrating samples.”

As nicely as this is said, I can’t truly say that I agree. The amount of DJs that want to remix live is not that big. It is still a two worlds apart system. Yes other brands seem to be working on bridging that gap-Ableton and Traktor come to mind- but it is not something that is being sought by young bedroom DJs.

Nevertheless, it is not to say that there will not be a market for this type of mashing of Performance and DJing. With a pretty affordable controller that boast ergonomic and reactive pads, it could be the entry for a good amount into this performance DJ thing. There are 16 pads on each side to trigger samples. It also comes with a 4 channel audio interface.

Another interesting part of this is this controller will not come bundled with already established DJ software but with DJUCED 40. For people that are just starting out, that will be a good thing as it won’t be additional cost.

The P32 DJ will be available in March of this year, and it will cost you $249.99 Check out the intro video and press release below for more info.
