The Traktor Kontrol S8 was leaked by Amazon and various other sources earlier this month and even though we already knew what this was, we decided to keep quiet until NI themselves let the cat out of the bag. They did so yesterday with a new Teaser Video showing various parts of the new Traktor Kontrol S8 and the shiny new screens that DJ’s can use for playback rather than looking at the computer screen.

The Traktor Kontrol S8 looks to have the same Native Instruments DNA with the same colors and look to the construction as the current controllers and mixers. The S8 does not have jog wheels which will certainly turn off Hip-Hop and scratch DJ’s, but will be right at home with 4-beat/4-bar EDM style DJ’s that this is aimed at. The S8 uses touchstrips in order to manipulate track speeds and for nudging similar to the Traktor Kontrol X1 MK2 that we recently reviewed. The S8 also looks to be a standalone four-channel mixer that can work with or without software. The inputs are also DVS-ready in a Traktor-Scratch-Certified manner meaning users can connect timecode CD decks or vinyl decks for digital playback. All of the linefaders and the crossfader can easily be removed as the entire front square panel comes off so that the faders can be maintained or even replaced with Innofader Mini’s.

Each deck has a 2×8 section of RGB performance pads and four Remix decks volume faders to get the most complete control over multiple remix decks in a single unit. There are other remix decks secrets and more hidden tricks of the S8 that will be revealed in due course. Stay tuned for more information which will be available very soon…
