On Monday of this week, Numark has revealed it’s newest DJ controller that they are dubbing as “The Next Big Thing” called the NV. The Numark NV Controller promises to change the game by adding 4.3-inch full color displays above each jog wheel deck so that users can see waveforms, cue points, loops, music libraries, effects, and all the other important visual information so that DJ’s can put the laptop away for good.

The Numark NV still requires a computer USB interface to function and it will come bundled with the Full Edition of Serato DJ. The Numark NV allows for up to four decks of Serato control and sports five-inch jog wheels (similar to those found on the NS6), the 16 Velocity Sensitive RGB Pads (to carry out the advance new Pad Functions), Touch Sensitive EQ/FX knobs for sick combos, and these full-color 4.3-inch screens above each deck. The price of this new technology clocks in at a very reasonable $699. The Numark NV also has that metal housing for superior protection and durability.

Everything doesn’t look perfect with the Numark NV however as users will likely get most of their screen functions by using the controller with Serato DJ. So users wanting to use the NV with other software will probably be left out in the cold when it comes to the screen manipulation. The displays themselves are also not touch-screens so other buttons and possibly the laptop will be used for control. The NV does not have a standalone mixer function with a bunch of inputs and outputs as the only other input on the unit is an Aux variety.

All in all the NV is a cool step in the right direction in my opinion. I would love to get screens right on the device to keep me from using and looking directly at a laptop. The DJbooth team will be on hand at next month’s Atlantic DJ Expo to give you a full demo and walkthrough of the Numark NV so be sure to stay tuned!
