
Earlier this morning Pioneer DJ has released a very quick teaser video of what looks to be like their new Rekordbox software with a lot more features. Specifically, it looks like the Rekordbox software that currently handles track preparation and library management for CDJ/DJM users will now be able to work in real time with new DJ controllers and perhaps even DVS timecode vinyl setups. Many people are speculating that the Pioneer team will create all new controllers for this software, but I wish to argue as to why they won’t be able to release firmware updates to allow their current controllers to also work with Rekordbox in this newer form. That way they can take advantage of their current lineup and keep current controller users happy with what they already have. We’ll see how that goes…
Either way, this is sure to break into the Serato/Traktor/VDJ dominated market in a BIG way as now DJ’s can see a clear path from their digital controller setup to one day working in the bigger club setups that are essentially using the same software that they’ve always known.
