Stanton Is For Sale

One of my personal favorite DJ Equipment manufacturers of all time is now up for sale. Stanton-Magnetics and all of its subsidiaries (KRK, Cerwin Vega, etc.) are up on the auction block by the Parent Company ML Capital. Rumors say the announcement was made right before the NAMM 2011 show. Only time will tell what happens with the company and their DJ equipment, but for now its just business as usual as we are set to receive the revamped SCS1 System any day now.

The reasoning behind the sale of Stanton seems to be attributed to poor sales figures, the firing of a top sales executive, and lack of overall product innovation. In some ways I can agree with the sale and almost saw it as inevitable after Stanton stopped cranking out new decks and mixers on a regular basis. It just seems that the competition invested more time and development with their products than Stanton was willing to, and the results speak for themselves. The SCS1 system could have taken off as the premier MIDI solution for DJ's looking for a vinyl experience with all the digital goodness they could handle all wrapped in one. Because of poor planning and implementation, Stanton was forced to redesign the firmware and applications so that the system could function correctly in the first place. Since Stanton missed that boat, Numark, GCI, and others were allowed to gain serious marketshare while Stanton just stayed still. Business is Business I guess, but I hope the Stanton Group sticks around for a little while longer... Something tells me that they still have a few tricks up their DJ Sleeves.
