The Stanton SM.V3 is a mid priced scratch cartridge with good skip resistance and quality sound.
With two fully mounted needles and a clear flight case included standard, the Stanton Skratchmaster V3 (SM.V3) is a great choice for the DJ on a budget. The needles have great sound quality and high-skip resistance, providing a reliable sound that you can count on while spinning or scratching. The needle's specially designed suspension provides excellent stability for even the worst setups. While some diehards may not want to sway from the Shure 447, the Stanton SM V3 provides an excellent alternative.
I put the sound quality of the SM V3 to the test against the Shure 447 by switching out one of my Shure needles and putting in the Stanton. Playing two copies of the same record simultaneously, I used my crossfader to cut from one to the other. Surprisingly, the sound from the V3 matched up very well against its more expensive counterpart.
The SM V3 sits up higher in the cartridge than the Shure 447 which puts the stylus at a more extreme downward angle. While this doesn't affect the sound, the SM V3 certainly feels different than the more common 447, which may take some getting used to.
In summary, the SM V3s come recommended for any hip hop dj looking for an mid priced scratch cartridge.
