The Serato team has just released the new Serato DJ 1.3.0 DJ software that includes some welcomed upgrades to the effects and also allows all DJ controllers to use the "pioneer-inspired" Slip mode feature.

The effects section receives the most attention in this upgrade which now has a new FX Expansion pack system that allows users to purchase and download additional FX packages that provide DJ's with a multitude of new effects to use in their sets. With the release of Serato DJ 1.3.0 also comes the first two of these new FX Expansion Packs which are the Wolf Pack (free with the upgrade) and the Back Pack ($20). The Wolf Pack consists of a classic round-up of past Serato effects and the Back Pack has is dub pack of analog and old‑school effects. There is also a Base Pack that consists of the effects that were already present in the previous version of Serato DJ.

In order to access all of these new effects in the Expansion Packs, Serato DJ has also introduced a new Edit Favorite FX feature that will allow DJ's to select certain effects as favorites so they can be easily accessed for future use without scrolling through the entire list of available effects.

Mentioned earlier, the Slip-Mode feature is now a new function in Serato DJ. For those of you who still haven't seen Slip Mode in action yet, you don't know what you're missing. When Slip Mode is engaged, the DJ can use the jog wheels, loops, or cue points as they see fit and when the Slip Mode is disengaged, the track will continue playing at the location where it would have been without any changes. Bear in mind that users will have to either map this function to a button on a controller if the controller in question doesn't have this feature or continue to use a mouse/keyboard for this feature.

Also in this update, the

Vestax VCI-300

and Novation Twitch both get the Serato DJ treatment as Serato DJ 1.3.0 will now work seamlessly with both of these popular DJ controllers. The Vestax VFX-1 effects controller is now compatible with Serato DJ and can be used as an auxiliary controller for Serato DJ in conjunction with any other Serato DJ controller. Serato DJ has come a long way in terms of available effects within its software setup. The new izotope effects found in Serato sound great and they have lots of depth to make them unique. There are many different tricks and tips that can be found within the Serato DJ effects engine. The Serato DJ team has just released an in-depth tutorial video on the Serato DJ FX powered by iZotope. Serato DJ Tutorial Video Series

The new Serato DJ software that comes bundled with the new Pioneer DDJ-SX will soon be released to all current Serato Itch Users and Serato DJ Intro Users within the next few months. This newly updated software will have quite a few differences from what those DJ's are normally used to, so the Serato team decided to get everyone familiar with Serato DJ by releasing a slew of new Tutorial videos so users can see exactly what's changed and how to use the features. Check out all the videos inside after the jump!

[Video] Serato DJ with Numark NS6

The Numark NS6 has been out on the market for almost two years now, but its still one of my favorite controllers to use with Serato. During our HD-Video review, we loved the build quality, tight jog wheels, and excellent fader feel along with the plethora of input and output options that are available to the users. The NS6 now gets a free software upgrade from Serato Itch to the new and improved Serato DJ and DJ CXL is in the Numark Studio to give a quick demo video of the new look and features. Check out the performance video and my (throwback) NS6 review after the jump.

[Video] Serato DJ with Numark NS7

The Numark NS7 has been out on the market for over 3 years now, but its still one of my favorite controllers to use with Serato as its still the only controller that contains actively spinning platters and a mixing console all in one single unit. During DJ Esco's written review, we loved the build quality, excellent vinyl feel on the platters, and a high quality mixing section to round out the package. The NS7 now gets a free software upgrade from Serato Itch to the new and improved Serato DJ and DJ CXL is in the Numark Studio to give a quick demo video of the new look and features. Check out the performance video and the (throwback) NS7 written review.

Serato DJ Intro Set & Serato DJ Upgrade [Video]

Just because someone is using the lite version of a DJ software doesn't mean the DJ can't pull off some great mixing and show some serious skills on these new entry-level DJ controllers that are out there on the market. We reviewed the Pioneer DDJ-SB controller about a year ago and Sam from the Serato team performs a quick routine using only Serato DJ Intro and some of the entry-level controllers that all cost under $300 and are bundled with the software. If you need more horsepower, then the user can upgrade to the full Serato DJ software which has more features.
