Since releasing an EP via iTunes this past spring, MC Lyte's supergroup, Almost September, has picked up plenty of buzz among old-school legends and newcomers alike. As Lyte, Whitey White, and Jared Lee begin work on their forthcoming full-length album, they’ve provided us with the world's newest word-centered anthem. Well, actually, 16 17 18 is centered on three words; KRS-One (yes, he's still as strong as ever) spits a hot 16 with his opening verse, Lyte thinks back to when she first got into hip-hop at age 17, and Al Be Back details what has happened in the world since he first picked up a mic at age 18. Over a classic Northeast beat from Lee, 16 17 18 pieces together hip-hop's past, present, and future to create a timeless tribute to the genre. Expect the counting to continue when the inevitable remix is released.
