Avery Storm - It's Not Over

DJBooth_logo2x
  • Artist: Avery Storm
  • Track: It's Not Over
  • Producer: The Heatmakerz
  • Album: Diary of the Takeoff

As I detailed in my review of his Category 5 mixtape, Avery Storm, like his musical kindred spirits Janis Joplin or Macy Gray, has one of those voices that breaks almost every rule about how you’re supposed to sing, but only sounds more captivating for its originality. Storm’s far from average vocal cords are on full display again on It’s Not Over, a soulful cut that despite the subject matter, and his darker previous material, sounds almost celebratory, an effect no doubt enhanced by The Heatmakerz' retro-soul production work. Sure, the haters will find plenty to get worked up about here, but fans will find just as much, if not more, to fall in love with. Personally, it’s all love from where I sit. For more only-Avery-Storm-sounds-like-this jams like It’s Not Over, check out his DJBooth hostedDiary of the Takeoff mixtape, out now, and be on the lookout for more info about his upcoming album Shotgun Love, due to (hopefully) drop this year.
