One of the great hip-hop myths is that you need a major label deal in order to be successful. That may have been true twenty years ago, but in the internet age an artist can find all the creative and financial success they want far away from the major label spotlight. Case in point Bobby Creekwater, the former Shady Records emcee who’s now getting his independent hustle on and dropping tracks like Pardon My French with regularity. A lyrically-centered cut built around production from The Invisibles, who combine swirling synths with sharp percussion (more cowbell!), Pardon My French is first and foremost a forum for Creekwater to refuse to apologize for his often outspoken nature, mixing socially conscious lines and outright obscenities into a flow that could only come from one man. Bobby Creekwater fans should find plenty to celebrate in 2010. The emcee reportedly has at least three major projects coming out this year, starting with his DJ Greg Street Presents: Back to Briefcase 2 mixtape, dropping right here on DJBooth.net February 8.
