Brother Ali - Fresh Air

  • Artist: Brother Ali
  • Track: Fresh Air
  • Producer: Ant
  • Album: Us

Domestic life is addressed relatively seldom in rap; artists are generally more than willing to take listeners to the clubs, the streets, the studio, or the tour bus, but, whether due to privacy concerns or simply because they don't get to spend much time there, the majority remain vague or silent on what goes on at home. Minne-ap favorite Brother Ali, however, sees no reason to keep mum—as he makes clear on Us lead single Fresh Air, he's got a happy home life and he's proud of it. Over Rhymesayers beatsmith Ant's funk-soul samples, Ali lets listeners know just how great he's feeling, giving thanks for his family, friends, and local fanbase and expressing gratitude for such simple pleasures as chilling on the couch, watching Conan. Ali's distinctive delivery is as attention-grabbing as ever, and his optimism is infectious, to say the least. Realness and positivity are two things that the Booth can't get enough of, and Fresh Air, refreshingly, has both in spades. Fans can find more thought-provoking underground jams on Us, dropping September 29th off Rhymesayers.
