Bun B & GLC ft. BJ The Chicago Kid - Happiness Over Riches
- Artist: Bun B
- Track: Happiness Over Riches
- Feat. GLC, BJ The Chicago Kid
- Producer: The Weathermen
- Album: Closed Sessions (Vol. 1)
Back in the ‘90s philosophical trio Biggie, Diddy, and Mase helped us to understand one of life’s most fundamental concepts when they said “Mo’ money, mo’ problems.” On Bun B & GLC’s latest track, Happiness Over Riches, the UGK vet and Chi-town native pick things up where their predecessors left off, further exploring the problems that can come with excess cash. While both have a long history of microphone excellence, here the two emcees’ verses are arguably outshined by guest vocals from BJ The Chicago Kid, while a The Weathermen-produced melody, which could best be described as a more dramatic version of the Shaft theme song, hums in the background. Somewhat disappointingly, the last minute of the track is occupied by a monologue that could have easily been replaced by a third verse. Does the shift to spoken-word derail the record? You decide. Happiness will be featured on the RubyHornet.com compilation EP The Closed Sessions: (Vol. 1), set to drop in March.
