- Artist: Charles Hamilton
- Track: All Alone
- Producer: Woody
- Album: My Heart
Charles Hamilton is many things, but he is never boring. About a week or so after the-boy-who-called-everything revealed he had cancer, Hamilton drops the (seemingly) appropriately titled single, All Alone. But if you were expecting an introspective, dark track from the versatile artist, expect to have your expectations shattered. The electro-synth production, courtesy of frequent collaborator Woody, gives the song a shiny, uptempo boost that’s a direct juxtaposition to the somber tone the title first implies. And while Charles' lyrics are relatively melancholy, he delivers them in a sing-song, the upbeat instrumental and a rousing chorus on the back end keep the song at a cynical medium. The overall effect is somewhat like Eminem’s My Name Is, but Hamilton is no Shady, and Woody is no Dre, so as far as I’m concerned, All Alone is only somewhat intriguing. If the latest offering from one of hip-hop’s most enigmatic emcees grabs your interest, be sure to look out for his upcoming LP, My Heart, set to drop in 2011.
