Charles Hamilton - Scorpion
- Artist: Charles Hamilton
- Track: Scorpion
- Producer: Charles Hamilton
- Album: Well Isn't This Awkward Mixtape
If you were into video games back in the early '90s, the grainy “Get over here” sample that opens this record is sure to evoke some fond memories. Hamilton manages to put a romantic spin on the famous Mortal Kombat quote on the appropriately-titled Scorpion, a leaked track from his upcoming Well Isn't This Awkward... mixtape. Featuring subtly catchy production by the artist himself (based around a chopped sample of Raphael Saadiq and D'Angelo's Be Here), as well as the distinctive lyricism fans have come to expect, Scorpion is most definitely an enjoyable listen on its own merits, but, like most of Hamilton's work thus far, it's presented as just one piece of a larger puzzle; Well Isn't This Awkward... will apparently see Hamilton (as Connor Harrington) narrating a made-for-TV romance between himself and an anonymous, fabulously rich female. It's a compellingly strange concept (as usual for Hamilton); will listeners catch on? We'll find out this Friday, the 13th.
