In the wake of the controversy stirred up by Nas's Untitled album, Charles Hamilton’s new song, The N Word, is refreshingly ironic. Surprisingly, the track is just about as innocent as Mister Rogers. Literally. Apparently, “the N word” can also stand for “neighbor”. The Harlem rapper-producer samples Fred Roger’s Please Won’t You Be My Neighbor, which, in addition to being original as hell, actually comes off as quite dope. Hamilton explores the intricacies of both loving and hating thy neighbor, inserting witty punchlines here and there. While it would be imprudent of me to call him cocky, he has no problem with laughing at his own jokes. The N Word will not appear on his upcoming mixtape, Death Of A Mixtape Rapper, the first in a set of eight that he is calling the Hamiltonization Process.
