Clyde Carson - Crooked

  • Author:
  • Updated:
  • Artist: Clyde Carson
  • Track: Crooked
  • Producer: Cookin Soul
  • Album: Bass Rock EP

Though Clyde Carson's upcoming debut full-length is not much closer to release than it was when he was first featured back in July of '07 (Doin' That was one of my first blurbs-written for the Booth), the emcee does finally have a project out and available for purchase from online retailers (and a few select record shops).  Of the seven tracks on the Bass Rock EP, the one the Booth has chosen to feature sees Clyde venturing outside the Bay Area (and West Coast) "box." You might need to turn your volume up a bit to hear the subdued rhymes he spits on Crooked, but those who do will be well-rewarded. Between Carson's reflective bars, Cookin Soul get their DJ Premier on with a hook sampled from various “new classics” (the ones I could make out were Nas' Zone Out, Birdman & Lil Wayne's Stuntin' Like My Daddy, and Jay-Z's Pray).   Crooked is proof that there's more to Clyde Carson than the trunk bangers his EP's title references—if he can remember that, his career will doubtless be a long and successful one.
