Drake ft. Trey Songz - Replacement Girl
- Artist: Drake
- Track: Replacement Girl
- Feat. Trey Songz
- Producer: T. Slack, Boi-1da and T-Minus
- Album: Comeback Season
I know, I know—even in hip-hop years, 2007 ain't exactly the olden days. But with Drake's junior full-length, Nothing Was the Same, fixing to explode onto record store shelves next Tuesday, we thought it would be appropriate to take a look back at the joint that first introduced mainstream audiences to the hip-hop megastar. Part of sophomore mixtape Comeback Season, debut single Replacement Girl showcases a Drizzy who has yet to fully develop his persona; in place of the languid pillow talk that's become his trademark, he exhibits a more brash, uptempo rhyme style and, rather than singing his own hook, he enlists the help of R&B hitmaker Trey Songz. Nonetheless, it's hard not to be struck by the T-Dot native's potential. The BET brass certainly were; on April 30, they featured the cut (along with its Shane Stirling-directed visuals) as their “New Joint of the Day,” making Drake the first unsigned Canadian emcee to have a video featured on the channel.
