- Artist: Emilio Rojas
- Track: Look Up
- Producer: M-Phazes
- Album: Breaking Point
While much of Emilio Rojas’ new album Breaking Point deals with the joys and pains (and, um, pleasures) of dealing with the opposite sex, no project from the hard driving NYC emcee would be complete without some emotionally gripping and fearless selections like the aggressively inspirational Look Up. Frequent production collaborator M-Phazes delivers a cinematic instrumental given its sweetness by a strong piano line and its strength from a pounding drum section, an Inception soundtrack-esque combination only emphasized by Racaodolo’s haunting vocals. That backdrop is set off by Emilio’s narrative rhymes as he chronicles the rise of a young emcee who comes from nothing to defy the doubters and achieve worldwide fame: “Started buzzin and getting press / people callin giving him respect / A&Rs that wanna give him checks / every show he’s signing women’s breasts.” (It may not strictly be an autobiographical story, but it’s not not an autobiographical story.) For more music young emcees can Look Up to and pushes hip-hop to the Breaking Point, be sure to cop Emilio’s new album right now. (My apologies for the puns, I couldn't help myself.)
