- Artist: Jarren Benton
- Track: P.I.M.P.
- Producer: Jarren Benton
- Album: Unreleased
Though Jarren Benton's first featured cut, Skate, evoked Eminem comparisons due to its quirky production, hyperbolic humor, and cartoonish sound effects, this previously-unreleased record (making its online premiere here at DJBooth.net) showcases an entirely different side of the ATL up-and-comer. For one thing, P.I.M.P. has a much more Southern vibe; while retaining the expressive vocal cadences that defined his flow on the previous feature, he amps up the swagger (or “flickiness,” if you prefer) considerably, drawling each final syllable as he lets listeners know that paper is always priority numero uno. The artist's own production, complete with a pitch-shifted “feelin' like a pimp” sample behind the hook, heightens the far-out ambience with spacey choral synths. Fans of this soon-to-be-signed up-and-comer will want to keep their eyes glued to the Booth come spring – this April, we'll premiere Benton's contribution to our exclusive freestyle series.
