A rap buzzmaker representing the DMV, Jay IDK introduces himself to the Booth readership with freshly-minted promo single Hungry. Here, an headnodic boom-bap beat by Marc Nfinit bangs in the back as Jay showcases a rhyme style as grimy as it is lyrically on-point. At the tail end of verse one, he states his intent to someday join the ranks of the hip-hop greats: “I’ve been studying Big L, 2Pac, even Nas / Only because I’m tryin’ to get better of all of you guys.” Will he make it to the top? Never say never. If you like what you’re hearing, stay tuned; this record is just a loosie, but we’ll keep you posted on this talented newcomer’s plans.
