Luke Christopher - Follow Rivers

DJBooth_logo2x

Earlier this month, Luke Christopher earned rave Booth reviews for Broken People, an empathetic joint exploring the effects of emotional baggage on romantic relationships. Based on its chorus, a soulful sampling of Emeli Sandé's Rivers, the-newly-released Follow Rivers sounds like it's going to be a similarly heartstring-tugging affair, but it soon becomes clear that this cut has a split personality. When the first verse rolls around, the West Coast buzzmaker's beat shapeshifts into a minimal, trap-infused arrangement as he spits about the hedonistic pursuits that distract him from his dreams of rap superstardom. Despite—or perhaps because of—the drastic tonal shifts, the pieces add up to a harmonious, uniquely effective whole. This promo single isn't attached to a larger set, but we'll keep you posted on Christopher's plans as further details emerge.
