It takes one hell of a lyricist to coax Jay Electronica out of hiding for a guest verse. As such, Mac Miller's latest single should be a wake-up call to any heads who still aren't taking the indie phenom's skills seriously. On Suplexes Inside of Complexes and Duplexes, Miller alter-ego Larry Fisherman's mellotron loops set a pensive mood as the rhymesayer contemplates his place in the hip-hop game (Should he spit thought-provoking bars for the lyrical heads, or chase after mainstream success?) and humanity's place in the universe (“If Mars is the farthest man has set his target / Then I don't know why I even started.”). Jay Elec takes over on verse two, delivering knotty, allusive bars sure to keep RapGenius editors busy for weeks to come. Fans will be able to find this dazzling collab, the recently-featured Goosebumpz and much more on sophomore album Watching Movies With the Sound Off, dropping June 18, via Rostrum Records.
