On her Booth debut, released earlier this month, Marz Léon expressed a striking ambivalence with regard to a romantic partner, careening between starry-eyed reverence and bitter vitriol. Looks like the mixed emotions are mutual. The freshly-minted follow-up finds the L.A. repper shining a light on her lover’s duality in the same breath as her own: “You speak words of ‘I love you,’ but you f**k like you hate me.” Though High and Land replace Mike Dez behind the boards, their synth/sample instrumental has the same hazy, narcotized vibe that the latter brought to Leon’s first feature. Like what you’re hearing? Then stay tuned; Fire is just a loosie, but we’ll keep you posted on this pop buzzmaker’s plans as further details emerge.
