Would mentioning the fact that ¡MAYDAY!'s Lords of the Fly has yet to receive a single reader rating below five stars mean “jinxing” the musical equivalent of a shutout game? Because, if so... oops. For those who still haven't caught wind of the Miami crew's growing buzz, standout cut Give 'Em a Song should give you an idea of what the fuss is about. On the production tip, Plex Luthor, PrimoGio. LT Hopkins and Nonymous keep things simple and organic, blending mellow acoustic guitar with downtempo percussion, as vocalists Bernbiz and Wrekonize drop verses as filled with heartfelt emotion as they are with hard truths. It's Southern heavyweight David Banner, however, who takes the lead, lashing out with righteous anger on the front: “While we let George Bush keep lyin' bout them votes, Obama keep preachin' about hope. / But my folks on the Coast left with oil spills from BP and not one speck of soap.” Craving more from these innovative up-and-comers?
