Ricky Dubs ft. Mick Jenkins & YC The Cynic - Keep It 100

DJBooth_logo2x

Chicago's Mick Jenkins and Bronx native YC The Cynic may hail from different regions, but their similarities far outweight their differences. For example, neither is able to tolerate even the faintest whiff of fakeness. On joint single Keep It 100, the emcees remind jaded listeners what real sounds like. Beatsmith Ricky Dubs's jazzy keyboard loops, slow-rolling rhythm section and old-school cuts set the stage for vivid, complex bars from the collaborators. Though braggadocio is the primary theme, YC manages to work in a little commentary on the hot-button issue of police brutality. Fans will be able to find Keep It 100 and much more on Dub's Señor Dubs EP, scheduled to hit the 'net Wednesday, September 3.
