In 1989, Kwamé dropped his classic first single, The Rhythm, off his debut album, Kwamé the Boy Genius: Featuring A New Beginning. In commemoration of the song’s 20-year anniversary, the rapper-turned-producer has interpolated a portion of the song’s bassline into a remix of Raheem DeVaughn’s tentative fourth single, Friday (Shut The Club Down). The record, which also samples the Temptations’ My Girl, is by far DeVaughn’s boldest venture into club music to date. Though his current project, Love Behind The Melody, was first available this past January, DeVaughn has steadily released three singles from the project over the past twelve months, clearly paying no attention to a release calendar of any kind.
