Like many black men, following the announcement that Darren Wilson wouldn't be indicted for the murder of Michael Brown, Raury began to feel as if he were walking around with a target on his back. That fear, frustration and anger inspired him to pen Fly, a song that came together so quickly, says the artist that he “knew it belonged to the universe.” Today, the universe finally gets to hear it. Over a guitar-led beat that slowly gathers steam over the course of the cut (produced by Raury in conjunction with Willie Linton and Jeff “Gitty” Gittelman), the artist looks beyond today's unrest, toward the possibility of a better tomorrow: “I hope one day we'll fly. / Above the things that make humanity divide.” This powerful cut is just a loosie, but we'll keep you posted as the singer/songwriter firms up his plans for the new year.
